Quantm Weekend - Colac (May 2010)

Posted by qswestvic on May 20, 2011 at 8:41 AM

Another amazing four days with Mel with lots of chatting, laughsand licking and chewing for both two and four leggeds!

We had three in the Level 1 Primary Lesson and 3 in the L2 Secondary and here of some of the tah dahs to share with you all:

  • Maintain the distance/personal space, ie watch that shoulder
  • It's okay to push at the shoulder when asking for spirals in - helps to maintain gait and softness
  • Being able to walk Lewis through the two sheds without him rushing and spinning!
  • Being able to comprehend and implement the rebound exerciseSoft feel for the first time!
  • Watch the shoulder so it doesn't invate your personal space. They can be very subtle movements.
  • Three circles at canter (each way) . . . no discussion, pigroot or ears back! . . . and spiral in!
  • Rory did ligh and soft spiralt in at trot.
  • A few steps at liberty with connection with Bailey and four feet across the trailer ramp!
  • Saw the light!!! for a few seconds of hor to get my horse over barels.
  • Rory gave me canter cicles in the bridle even though it was very claustrophobic for her!
  • I think I finally felt true "effective phases" . . . . and it really works!
  • Ridden spirals - felt soft and Max picked himself up properly . . . even had a couple of spiral steps at canter!
  • We survived a canter passenger lesson in the rain on slippery ground
  • I understand the posting and how to feel for them.Clarity and consistency!
  • Remember to start with phase 1.
  • Protect my personal space!
  • Rebound exercise - to address claustrophobia.
  • Body rubs and contact to address personal space invasion and desentisation.
  • Getting phases right . . . phase 1, 2, 3, 4 . . and their respective pressures.

Understanding the importance of the saddling procedure!

There seems to be common thread through these tah dahs/comments/BFOs . . . the importance of protecting your personal space and to recognise when your horse is doing this . . . and how subtle they can be at doing it! And, of course, phases . . . . we need to be so particular and clear and not be afraid to go to phase 4 (and make it effective) if we have to . . . makes a huge difference.    Here's some photos

As always, a huge thank you to Mel for being so patient with us and pushing us when we need pushing, giving us a slap around the head (literally, not physically of course) when needed, helping us to see/feel things more clearly. We are so fortunate to have her share her time and expertise with us all and willingly as she does. She is just getting better and better as an instructor.

Quantum Savvy has one of the best support networks of any program I have ever come across, and these QWs are part of that network. We have the lesson packs (home study), Forum (24/7 advice/coaching), assignments (feedback), QWs (hand's on coaching/instruction) and, of course, clinics and camps. What more could a student ask for!

Last, but by no means least, thank you to Lindy for making her lovely property available. You are a wonderful host and we all had a ball !

Dates for the next QW will be 14 - 17 August and lessons on offer will be L1 Primary and L2 Secondary so put those dates in your diaries and start saving now!
